[Editor’s Note: This week we are delighted to share another beautiful post created by our dear friend and fellow traveler, photographer Jackie Spaulding! Jackie was with us on our journeys last year in Sorrento, Naples and Paestum, and she has gracefully allowed us to share her Neapolitan photo walkabout below! With only an afternoon to spend in Naples, I consulted a friend who recently traveled there. She said “eat and walk the backstreets!”
After lunching on some delicious fried pizza, a Neapolitan specialty, we started our walk. Naples is everything they say it is: crazy, loud, energetic, but also brimming with character. Its beauty is hidden in unexpected places.
To get out of the chaotic crowds, we started to meander our way through the backstreets and alleys. The city has over 100 alleys which intertwine from the historic center to the outskirts of the city!
The alleys are filled with life — restaurants, boutiques, and grocery stores line the streets.
We walked up towards the hills, excited to see where the path would take us!
In the end, we all fell absolutely in love with Naples. Its grit, its charm, and its character beckoning us to return some day soon. Until then, I simply had to take a bite of the city home with me. Sfogliatelle . . . Naples is renowned for these delicious pastries and they made the long plane ride home all the sweeter!
