Snapshots of Sulmona: A Captivating Photo Walkabout
The Quiet Beauty of One of Italy's Hidden Gems
[Editor’s Note: This week we are delighted to share a post created by our dear friend and fellow traveler, photographer Jackie Spaulding! Jackie was with us on our recent Italian journeys in Sorrento, Naples and Paestum, though she also had her own travel adventures, including her visit to Sulmona, Italy, which she has gracefully documented for us in her photo walkabout below!]
One of my favorite things to do when traveling is a photo walkabout. I love getting up early to catch the morning light and wander by myself through the city. You catch glimpses of locals starting their day and historic sites, quiet and not yet filled with crowds.
The town of Sulmona is located in the Abruzzo region of Italy. It showcases a 12th-century medieval aqueduct and is the birthplace of the poet Ovid. It’s also where the famous confection, confetti (sugar-coated almond candy), was invented.
The beauty of a photo walkabout is you’ll never know what will catch your eye:
Sulmona is the perfect off-the-beaten-path town to visit if you want to get away from the crowds in Italy. I can’t wait to go back and continue exploring.
I love them all, but I think my favorite photo is that absolutely amazing fountain! So gorgeous. So pagan. And my second favorite is that lordly cat. That cat owns 51% of this village.
Lovely photos!
