Save the Date! The 100th Episode of Our Aesthetic Arrest Podcast!
Monday, June 10th! The Art & Artists We Can't Live Without!
The dinner party continues! Join us on Monday, June 10th for a special extravaganza celebration of the 100th Episode of our Aesthetic Arrest Podcast!
We’ve spent the last two years sharing our love of Reading, Listening, Looking, Viewing and Tasting with the world . . . and we are beyond grateful to you all for joining us on this adventure.
All of our reading, listening, looking, viewing and tasting recommendations on our 100th podcast are inspired by a great dinner party question we encountered recently:
Who are some of the artists you cannot live without? What are some examples from the world of art and culture that regularly bring you the beauty, wisdom, inspiration and joy we all need to survive in these troubled times?
For our 100th podcast, we’ve both chosen five of our most cherished examples from among the many artists and artworks, books and writers, musicians and albums, directors and films and performers, recipes and meals that we cannot live without. But we want to hear your voices as well!
So here is this week's question for the table:
What are some of YOUR choices? Who are some of the artists YOU cannot live without? Reading, listening, looking, viewing and/or tasting picks are all welcome!
And because this will be our 100th episode, we are opening up comments on this post to ALL subscribers — paid subscribers and free subscribers! Everyone is welcome to comment!
Tell us your choices in the comments and we’ll share some of your responses on Monday's podcast. We have a few other surprises in store as well, including something special we’ve never done before in a single episode! (Here’s a hint: 100 is a very special number!)
And, as always, thank you for listening and for all of your continued support over these past 99 episodes and counting!
Cheers to that!
Visual art, I could go into classical and modern names; I prefer the evolving contemporary art that reflects the hidden truth and aspects of society and neo-culture (culture that is instant processed pseudo-culture). It doesn't have to be flashy, or vivid, it has to show us to ourselves. An oldie but goodie example, more of a performance is Rest Energy (1980) Ulay/Marina Abramović: https://youtu.be/lGwb3rb3yC0?feature=shared
I regard music as a visual art architect of the mind and I can't live without Peter Gabriel, Omar Faruk Tekbilek, David Bowie and original soul and Motown, the O'Jays, Main Ingredient, Spinners and The Four Tops and The Epicurean Vagabonds.
I can't live without the original 60's television Star Trek series with it's use creative use of lighting gels of reds, greens and purples. NOVA and Vice documentaries.
I can't live without David Lynch, Garry Shandling, Woody Allen, Soderbergh, Alfred Hitchcock, Ken Russell and Jordan Peele.
I can't live without pasta, croquetas de bacalao, tandoori chicken and pakoras!
I can't live without Veurve Clicqiot Champagne and chocolate from Belgium (non-imported).
This list is not anywhere near complete, of course!
In addition to the artists and writers I listed on last week's podcast comment, I want to add playwright August Wilson and any performance by the late Chadwick Boseman. Music wise I tend to listen to the classical (Chopin & Mozart), but who could live without Queen. How about a favorite venue--for example, Ashland Oregon's Shakespeare Festival performing any Shakespeare play. I am also a diehard Star Trek fan especially Next Generation.
