Fantastia was at the top of my list too! My mind was blown the first time I saw it as a kind. And Sleeping Beauty, such a classic and so beautiful, to this day. Maleficent has to be one of the greatest Disney villains!
I think my two enduring favorites from childhood are The Last Unicorn and The Secret of NIMH (except for Jeremy...Dom DeLuise drives me bananas), which may explain my penchant for darkness...
I’ll also toss out anything from Jan Svankmajer, but especially Alice. His work is one of a kind and totally transfixing!
These would all be on my shortlist too! Both The Last Unicorn and The Secret of NIMH were two of my favorite Friday night video rental choices (on Betamax video no less). And I almost chose Jan Švankmajer's Alice . . . so brilliant and haunting and perfect.
Many of my favorites have already been mentioned (I'm late to the dinner party this week), but another one of my favorites is Spirited Away. It's one of the few animated films I've seen on the big screen as an adult. Hayao Miyazaki is a cinematic genius.
I’m so happy to hear you’re on the mend, although you both got colds, which is unfortunate on top of all you’re dealing with. But you always see the light side of things and embrace new foods to enjoy.
Hearing about David Attenborough’s planet earth three almost brought me to tears. I can’t even watch the shows, I hate to say it because they just break my heart. But I agree with you, they are absolutely stunning and moving, heartbreaking and inspiring.
I also love that, even though you can’t eat the food you’re talking about, it is enthralling to listen to you talk about biscuits, of all things. I don’t know too many other people who could be as enthralling no matter what they talk about!
I used to own the Planet Earth series on CD. Attenborough’s voice served as an AMSR? ASMR? that tranquilized me and so I played it often.
To be clear, I am Bugs Bunny. However I enjoy the utter futility of Wylie Coyote in the Roadrunner, we're talking films of animation. Twas mentioned by Ryan, Fantastic Planet, or La Planète Savauge. I think for it's story, unique animation design, writing and narration, Barry Bostwick from The Rocky Horror Picture Show (Brad) as the teenager Om, another ASMR animation film I played often. The music, Alain Goraguer, reminiscent of an earlier version of the group AIR, lulled me into a state of languid amusement.
I was going to mention Watership Down, but I opted for this one because it's what my mind was driven to after Ryan mentioned it. Great minds.
I've never heard of nor seen The Last Unicorn, that Katie mentioned here in the comments, so that's going down on the list. Alas, The Jungle Book. Such a cute boy! It's been AGES since I've seen this. Lastly, for the holidays, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. Love the music and the song "Mr. Grinch."
Yes! Barry Bostwick, was the voice of the teen Om. You're a triple-decker toad stool & sauerkraut sandwich . . . . with aresenic saaauuuce . . . da-da-da-da-dee-do, da-da-da-da-dee-do XXXOOO
I hope you both feel better! I was so excited when you asked this question because it gives me an opportunity to talk about Klaus on Netflix. It is beautiful and hilarious and dark and silly and if you don’t cry a little, I don’t want to know you. 😆 I just rewatched it last week and it was even better than I remembered. It’s hand-drawn animation makes it feel like I’m watching something from my childhood.
Thank you! We're feeling much better. Yay, something new to watch! We'll have to check out Klaus. I love the hand-drawn animation element. We'll be sure to cry a little!
I'm going old school re animated films. Two from my childhood that had an impact were Disney's Fantasia & Sleeping Beauty.
Fantastia was at the top of my list too! My mind was blown the first time I saw it as a kind. And Sleeping Beauty, such a classic and so beautiful, to this day. Maleficent has to be one of the greatest Disney villains!
Love these choices! Those are two of my favorite Disney classics as well.
I'd have to say that one of my all-time favorite animated films is from my childhood and that's The Jungle Book (1967).
I love The Jungle Book! Second film I ever saw in a theater--magic!!
I think it had to be one of my first films as well in the theater!
Yes! Another one of my favorite films (and books) as a little kid!

I almost said The Secret of NIMH myself!!! And I'd totally forgotten about The Last Unicorn, a treasure!
And Svankmajer's Alice is pure genius, agreed. Great recommendations!

Spirited Away is gorgeous and absolutely captivating. Great choice! Princess Mononoke was on my shortlist as well!

Thank you, Cheryl! We're both so humbled and honored that you appreciate what we're doing. Honestly, your feedback makes it all worthwhile.
I want a Bomb Buttermilk Biscuit so bad!!!

Have to love The Grinch Who Stole Christmas!
I had no idea that Barry Bostwick was the teenager Om on Fantastic Planet. Crazy. And Watership Down...so good!
