Pachinko is a great read. Also watched season 1 & like it as well. Notable because I'm usually disappointed with a movie/tv adaptation of a good book.

BTW, my favorite birthday is an understated one with a good dinner & time with my boys.

Pachinko (the book) is on my shortlist! Can't wait to read it, and glad to hear the TV adaptation is worthy of the original. You're going to love Season 2! It's so good.

I want kde’s birthday tradition! As it stands, Chris makes key lime pie for my birthday every year—the minute it’s gone, I begin craving the next one. Makes the whole aging part a little easier to bear!

I love key lime pie! Yum! There's a restaurant in Tirana that makes a great key lime pie, but I bet Chris does it better!

I mentioned this before, but my annual birthday tradition of course requires reading a good book, listening to great music, looking at beautiful art, viewing a favorite film (or two), and tasting spectacular food and wine. I will add that I always start my birthday by reading the poetry of H.D. (my favorite poet) over my daily cup of Earl Grey tea. And in recent years I always listen to McCoy Tyner's "Atlantis" at some point during the day.

Since our wedding anniversary is the day before my birthday, my favorite thing to do is to go out to dinner on our anniversary and then do absolutely nothing for my birthday but read, listen to music and maybe watch a classic movie from 1971! Typically, I also like something tasty to be delivered to the door and some bottles of my favorite wines at the ready.
