I absolutely loved the black widow story. God that’s tragic, though people are so cruel, especially since the advent of social media.

Agreed! It's a testament to her that she came through it and created something so inspiring out of something so dark.

I just watched that trailer for Reading Rainbow, which I’ve never heard of because I’m old. Made me cry. and then I watched Jimmy Fallon‘s performance of it and it was hilarious. Love you guys and your work!

Thank you, Cheryl! I was too old for Reading Rainbow also but I love how many lives it obviously touched and inspired. And that performance by Jimmy Fallon- so brilliantly funny!

Thanks so much for commenting Cheryl! And like I said, I was literally bawling by the end of the documentary, but it's definitely worth a watch. You'll have both the original theme song and the Jimmy Fallon/Door version stuck in your head for days!

I love halva! I can't eat much because it's so sweet, at least the store varieties are. I think I've seen it sold here at Carrefour market.

I used to have a crush on LeVar, he has the cutest eyes, eyes like a deer. I watched The Reading Rainbow, in my 30's.

About Cody, this was fascinating, watching her at her loom. The patience, presence, and the way she makes it like a painting with perspective is remarkable. Another thing worth mentioning is what you told us about the Long Walk. The idea that a nation, purportedly built on the premise of freedom, would force march native peoples into camps is something they have been trying to re-narrate since the fall of education in the USA. Remarkable that they re-fashioned those government issued blanket into another form and design pattern reflecting their culture and their spiritual assignment of the number four as "balance" which is also "stability" on the Four of Disks card of the Thoth Tarot- Aleister Crowley.

If there's a film out there about this story of the blankets and internment camps, what is it's title? And if no film has been made, it certainly is a movie to be made to tell this story so that many generations will remember what happened.

The pop documentary sounds intriguing, so I think I'll do a search to see it because I don't have Netflix, or any other streaming service. However, the government blanket "mentionette" blew my mind, because it's a detail I've never heard of until now so thank you very much for sparking an interest in me.

Same here! I knew about the Long Walk, but I had never heard the history of the Germantown blankets being deconstructed and repurposed by Navajo weavers until this week, when I was researching Melissa's Cody beautiful artwork. I completely agree there should be a film or a documentary about the subject. I did find a 2007 PBS documentary about the Long Walk (narrated by Peter Coyote), but I haven't seen it yet so I don't know if the Germantown blankets and Navajo weaving are discussed. The title is Long Walk: Tears of the Navajo, and it's currently on Youtube:

I may have seen this, but I'll look anyway. You know, Peter Coyote's voice is so recognizable that it's possible I may not have seen it because he does narration VO's for tons of documentaries. That one key aspect, about the blankets, that's the crux of the story right there! It symbolizes abuse of authority, humanity crime and the tribe's resilience facing their odds of becoming what was essentially a slave. This isn't even a political statement! It's a statement of simple common basic human decency, or the lack thereof, that needs to be taught. A dramatic film would do as well, like the African American ladies who worked for NASA behind the scenes doing the complex astrophysical mathematical calculations- without computers! If you haven't seen this, I highly recommend it. I'm a bit "visaged" right now from anesthetic residue, I'll look up that title . . . here, "Hidden Figures:" https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4846340/

So someone needs to come up with a draft pitch synopsis in five minutes or less to a studio exec for a film based on one real life Native woman and her journey with the blanket and it's origin.
