OMG I love you guys so much! You are killing me with this reading though. Im behind already with the weekly books (like by 3 weeks :( ) but this is going to actually murder me. Cant Ryan read the Little Engine that Could or fine poetry from Shel Silverstein or Dr Seuss? I am intellectual shaming.
LOL! Thanks so much for commenting! We love you too!
In fairness, I started reading Miss Macintosh, My Darling *all* the way back in November 2024 and I didn't finish it until March of this year. I'm always reading multiple books at once, so in this case I only read about 10-15 pages per day (at most) until the final two weeks, when I couldn't put it down and I ploughed through the last 250 pages or so. Strangely, I was savoring the book so much I didn't want it to end. In the meantime, I was also reading numerous other books in different genres. And that's not including all the books my husband's been reading which I haven't had time to read yet! So, for your own sanity, I recommend reading at a comfortable pace. It's not a marathon - it's a pleasure cruise! And in the case of a writer as eloquently opulent and luxuriantly loquacious as the inimitable Marguerite Young, I strongly suggest taking your time and just letting her words wash over you like an ancient epic or a beautiful collection of poetry.
So happy to hear that you've been reading our recommendations, though! Are there any books (or films, music, art, TV, etc.) we've suggested recently that you've particularly enjoyed? We're always curious to know what resonates!
Yes, I too am juggling multiple books at once. Currently in the stable is James, your recommendation from last year, which I am enjoying immensely, Survival is a Promise which I had put aside in order to re-read Zami which I insist all modern thinkers read. I am into Africa by Africans which is more of a struggle to get into, to round out the black culture stack. Not on your list, I have Memoirs of a Geisha on audio book for my 45 minute commute and The Company to go along with a long distance relationship I am exploring between Seattle and Vancouver. I have Shakespeare's Sisters on deck for my next audio book and I bought the Kindle version of Miss Macintosh, My Darling; I simply am out of room- I am stacking books in piles on the floor. I am living like an old retired college english professor in a cabin in the woods. OH OH OH and another thing! I recently went to the dentist and got the gas and came up with simply the most scandolous novel to write; Memoirs of a Dental Hygienist. I have the outline done and Im already on chapter 3.
I think we're all very similar in this regard! I think I'm reading about 4 at once now. We LOVE that you're reading our recommendations! Honestly, that makes doing this all worthwhile.
And Memoirs of a Dental Hygienist is a brilliant title! Can't wait to read it. Your sense of humor is brilliant, so I can only imagine what you will create!
