On the move again! This time we’re at the Al Dente Pasta Bar in the Napoli Train Station, where we’ve just arrived after a spectacular week in Florence. We’ve got three hours to kill before our connecting train to Sorrento to meet our friends Alan and Jackie for another adventure in a city we’ve never before visited.
But for now, how about a few snapshots of our fabulous, fun-filled, food-a-licious foray in Firenze?
Villa Bardini
What a view! Ryan Wildstar snapped this shot of the Florence skyline during our visit to the Villa Bardini (where we saw an aesthetically arresting photography exhibition which we’ll be discussing in detail on this Friday’s Aesthetic Arrest podcast!).
Circolo Aurora Cocktail Bar
There’s nothing better than cocktails and live music with friends! Before dinner, we made a pit stop at the delightful Circolo Aurora Cocktail Bar to sample their staggering cocktail menu (containing literally dozens of unique libation creations). A mixologist’s dream come true!
Trattoria I'raddi
A perfect lunch at Trattoria I'raddi, a local medieval-style taverna near our apartment. Ryan Elston had spaghetti with gorgonzola sauce and bread crumbs and Ryan Wildstar had a perfectly al dente pasta with a creamy ragù. Molto bene!
Touring the Uffizi at Night!
You know you have good friends when they buy you tickets to tour the astounding Uffizi Gallery at 6:30pm, virtually alone, on your first night in Florence. We arrived by train from Rome at 4:30pm, checked into our chic, medieval, 4th-floor apartment (with extremely steep stairs which were clearly constructed for the penitent popolo of the Renaissance) in the very hip Santo Spirito neighborhood. We’ll have much more to say about the Uffizi in general (and Botticelli in particular) on Friday, but for now check out these great photos from our first night:
I'Raddi di Santo Spirito & A Sunday Flea Market
Another great lunch. This time at I'Raddi di Santo Spirito, a neighborhood hangout with the tasty snacks and cold beers we needed on a hot Sunday afternoon. Ryan Elston had the crostone gorgonzola with walnuts, while Ryan Wildstar had the crostone lardo with sun-dried tomatoes. And to our delight, there was a giant flea market in the square! How many antique doorknobs, bronze curios and vintage outfits can we fit in our luggage?
Jackie Spaulding’s Photos of Florence!
It’s been a very long, tiring day of travel and our train will be here soon, but we wanted to end with some amazing snapshots of Florence taken by our dear friend Jackie Spaulding (follow her photography on Instagram here!). Her photos perfectly capture the essence of the city as we saw it this week:
Looks like that train is coming. And it’s on time! (A small miracle.) And now we’re headed off to our next destination: Sorrento . . . stay tuned!
Wow! Once again, I want to pack myself in your suitcase and travel with you to all your incredible destinations. The food, the museums all sounds fabulous! Wish I were there!!
