Poseidon/Neptune sculpture in Copenhagen Port by Christian Carl Peters (1822-1899) [©2005 Hans Andersen, Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported license]

In the year 2000, we moved to Paris, where we lived for the next five years as Bohemian artists in a 120-square-foot chambre de bonnes apartment in a 17th-century building.

During that time, whenever we had a few extra francs, we would frequent Les Philosophes bistro, one of our favorite spots on the Rue Vieille de Temple in the heart of the Marais. It was there that I wrote many a poem, and this is one of them from 2001.

As we are currently in Athens and we recently spent a beautiful week swimming in the Aegean on the island of Salamina, this tribute to Poseidon, the Greek God of the sea, seemed resonant. I hope you’ll enjoy it!
