‘Cascabel’ references several Meso-American deities and the tradition of storytelling. According to legend, Huitzilopochtli, the Aztec god of war and the hummingbird god, had beckoned the Aztecs to leave their home and migrate to a new location. They would settle once they came upon an eagle eating a snake on top of a cactus: now modern-day Mexico City. Integral to Mexican history, this scene is depicted at the center of the Mexican national flag and serves as a reminder of how the city came to be. 📸: Anna Ortiz

My goal out-distances the utmost star,
