Revisiting Our Top 10 Favorite Balkan Pizzas!

Today we are in transit from Athens, Greece to Skopje, North Macedonia (with an overnight stay in Thessaloniki). But what does this have to do with pizza?

Well, just last week the annual list of the 100 Best Pizzerias in the World was released. And to our pleasant surprise, our favorite pizzeria in Skopje, Matto Napoletano, was ranked one of the top 20 pizzas in Europe (#16) and one of the top 100 pizzas in the world (#81)!

We’ll be enjoying their award-wining pizza on Ryan Elston’s birthday on Wednesday, September 18th! But in the meantime we thought today was the perfect moment to bring back one of our most popular articles — Best of the Balkans: Our Top 10 Favorite Pizzas — newly updated for 2024! It turns out three of our top 10 choices (for Zagreb, Belgrade, and Skopje) are included in this year’s rankings. Here’s our updated list:
